OHSAA Wrestling Tournament

Five of our STVM Wrestlers made it to the OHSAA Wrestling State Tournament.

 

Sophia Morabito

Cole Palma

Cole is a freshman in the 106-pound weight class. He is a sectional champion and a district runner-up!

Nolan DeShon

Nolan is a freshman in the 113-pound weight class. He is a sectional champion and a district runner-up!

 

Quinn Hurley

Quinn is a freshman in the 126-pound weight class. He is a sectional champion and placed third at districts!

 

Taggart Wade

Taggart is a junior in the 144-pound weight class. He is a sectional champion and a district runner-up! This is Taggart’s second time going to State’s.

 

Duke Clayton

Duke is a senior in the 157-pound weight class. He is a sectional champion and a district runner-up!

 

Day One: Four Wrestlers Advance

Palma “dropped his opening round” 8-2 against Kyle Engram. He made a comeback in the consolation bracket, 16-1. He advanced to day two.

DeShon won his opening match against Henry Geiger by a technical fall, 16-0. He advanced to day two.

Hurley pinned his opponent, Caleb Snyder, resulting in an 8-2 victory. He advanced to day two.

Wade took the win in a 5-0 match against Nile Abbhul. He advanced to day two.

Clayton fought hard in his first match, but ultimately fell to Ronald Johnson II. He competed in the consolation bracket later in the day and was defeated by Ethan Lewis. Sadly, he didn’t advance to day two.

 

Day Two: Two Wrestlers Advance

Palma was victorious in his first match against Sid Hunt, where he earned a 17-1 technical fall. In his second match, Palma won against Blake Foucht, 5-3. He advanced to day three, the consolation semifinals.

DeShon won his match against Dominic Prosperi 4-3, securing his place in the Division II State Championships. 

“Hurley faced Josh Sheets… in the championship bracket and was defeated by pin.” He moved on to the consolation bracket, where he competed against John Paul Hatgas but fell 5-1. Sadly, he didn’t advance to the final day. 

Wade was defeated by Anthony Oscar in the Championship bracket with a 17-2 technical fall. He moved to the consolation bracket, in which his opponent, Anthony Trentanelli, won by pin. Sadly, Wade didn’t advance to the final day.

 

Day Three: Two Wrestlers Place in Top Five

Palma lost his first match 1-0 to Mark Mobley. He made a comeback in the second match in which he defeated his opponent, Brody McNabb, 1-0. Palma finished the state tournament by placing fifth. 

DeShon advanced to the state championship match, where he faced Jarreau Walker and came up short at 4-3. He finished as the state runner-up.
