Happy New Year, Irish! While January is full of celebrations and resolutions, some of the smaller holidays are overlooked. Do you ever wish that you could have a reason to dress up your pet, appreciate Winnie the Pooh, or celebrate squirrels? Join me as we explore the unique holidays of January.
Jan. 14th – Dress Up Your Pet Day
In America, pet owners spend an estimated five billion dollars annually on clothes/costumes alone. According to Ingrid Chu, the vice president of research insights at the American Pet Products Association, “We are seeing a trend in where pet owners are seeing their pets as more than just a pet.” So dress up your pets on this day, and if someone asks, just tell them that it is Dress Up Your Pet Day.
Jan. 18th – Winnie the Pooh Day
Winnie the Pooh is celebrating his 100th birthday this year! He lives in the Forest surrounding the Hundred Acre Wood. He has many friends, such as Eeyore, Piglet, Owl, Rabbit, Kanga, and Roo. Take time to celebrate Winnie the Pooh, especially on his centennial birthday.
Jan. 21st – Squirrel Appreciation Day
There are 122 different species of tree squirrel. They are nature’s gardener! Squirrels shape plant composition by burying their seeds and forgetting where the seeds are planted. On this day, you should take time to appreciate your local backyard residents for all of the planting that they do.
As you can see, the month of January is about much more than just your New Year’s Resolution! My favorite unique celebration is Winnie the Pooh Day! What is your favorite holiday on this list, and did you know about any of them? Have a great month and don’t forget to Be Your Best, Be Irish!
