Clubs are a great way to get involved at STVM, learn skills, and build a powerful resume. They offer opportunities to meet new people and make memories! St. Vincent-St. Mary High School offers numerous clubs. This article will explain why you should join clubs, how you can join a club, the clubs STVM has, and who is connected to them.
Why join clubs?
Clubs have been around for almost as long as high school has, and there’s a reason for this. High Schools aren’t just for learning core subjects; they also help foster community and aid teens trying to figure out who they are and what they want to do with their lives. Of course, teenagers don’t need to know everything, but slowly acquiring skills and discovering interests gives deeper insights into how they want the rest of their lives to go.Â
That’s why it’s so important to plan for the future, learning what you enjoy and building the real-world skills you want. Clubs, organizations, teams, and programs build leadership, problem-solving, personal growth, time management, communication, teamwork, and connection with mentors. And colleges know this: According to ACT.org, “Extracurriculars are important because they show colleges that you’re not just about academics. They show colleges that you have a wide range of interests and skills, and that you’re able to stick to your commitments. Colleges are looking for well-rounded students, so being active in sports, clubs, or volunteering can help your application stand out by highlighting your dedication, leadership, and ability to handle responsibilities outside of your core academics.”
How to Join Clubs?
Now that you know how clubs will help you excel in school and life. What clubs do you want to join? There are three types of clubs at STVM: Peer-Social, Co-Curricular, and Honorary. Peer-Social clubs, as the name suggests, are clubs that are less educational and more social; just show up. Co-curricular clubs go hand in hand with what you learn in school. Honorary clubs are ones you must apply for and get selected to. The best way to join a club is to talk to an advisor. I would also like to apologize personally for putting clubs that don’t quite exist yet on the Google Form that was sent out. Of course, with the help of a teacher, any club can be created: an Art Club, an Entrepreneurship club, a Short-Form Video Club, a Cooking Club, or an Esports Club are just some examples.
