Thanksgiving is a significant time of year when families come together to share a meal. Some see Thanksgiving as an opportunity to eat as much as they can, while others see Thanksgiving as a time of unity within a family. People tend to focus so much on the physical aspects of Thanksgiving that they forget its spiritual ones. Thanksgiving is a time that we can praise God for everything that we are grateful for and for all the things he does in our daily lives. The Hebrew word of Thanksgiving is tôwdâh (to-daw’). Its meaning is that of confession, praise, and offering. Giving a “Thanksgiving” to God means praising Him for all He does for us. We can find many things to be grateful for in our lives; however, the things that we are grateful for can differ from those of others. As humans of free will, we can differently interpret things. This means that we all can give thanks to God in different ways. We can also show our thanks to God in different ways by spiritually showing our gratitude or physically showing our gratitude. Spiritually showing our appreciation can be praying to God, while physically showing our gratitude can be helping others and helping out in the community.
