What is Capstone?
Capstone is a yearly tradition in which Seniors at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School shadow a local community sponsor in their field.
This experience gives seniors the opportunity to learn more about what they might want to study in college and beyond.
Seniors are given a designated week, from May 4th to the 8th, to complete the 25+ required hours; however, they may start shadowing before then.
After students complete their shadowing, they will give a presentation to the underclassmen about what they did, why they chose their sponsor, and what they learned from the experience.
What is the Class of 2026 Doing for Capstone?
In a survey sent to the STVM Class of 2026, seniors answered a few questions about the experience.
First, what are some of the places that seniors are shadowing at?
Seniors are shadowing at places such as Akron Children’s Hospital, the Akron Police Department, local schools, veterinary clinics, and even the Akron RubberDucks.

What will these seniors be doing at these places?
Some seniors will be shadowing people such as physical therapists, judges, detectives, teachers, accountants, and engineers. They also say they look forward to having fun by working with animals, meeting business owners, and finding out what teachers do in their off-time.
Finally, I asked the seniors for advice on preparing for the experience.
An overwhelming majority of the surveyed seniors said to start early. The deadlines come much faster than you would think, and you won’t have as much time as you think. Seniors also said to make sure you are doing something you enjoy and could see yourself doing in the future, so you have a better opportunity to learn about it firsthand.
Best of luck to the Class of 2026 on their Capstone Experience! We know you will represent the Irish well!
