Overview
On September 12, 2025, we celebrated our second official school morning Mass of the year, celebrating the Feast of the Holy Name of Mary. Led by St. Francis’ very own Father Jeremy Merzweller, we were guided through a beautiful lesson about our names and the very thing each of them stands for.
What Is the Feast of the Name Holy Mary?
The Feast of the Holy Name of Mary is when we gather together on September 12th and celebrate the honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the power of her name. Spiritually, the name Mary means “blessed” but it’s also considered to be the symbolization of God’s love and the importance of human connection.
Mass
We began mass with an introduction from Mrs. Goshe where she gave us a rundown of the purpose of this mass about our names and how they are important. In her explanation she used her own first name, Julie which stands for youthful. She then explains Mary’s name and the meaning of that before giving our attention back to mass. We are sung through this seamless transition by our very own Choir, lead by Mr. Young we then move onto to our normal mass, led by Father Jeremy Merzweller, he starts off with his own introduction and prayer before giving the stage to Senior Bella Incorvia to do a reading from St. Paul to the Galatians. After the reading, Father Merzweller takes the mic to read us a part of the Holy Gospel according to Luke then we move onto the homily as he tells us his story and how he connects with his name. The mass continues in its normal routine after this following the Eucharistic prayer and moving through the steps of communion. We concluded this mass with a gathering of our teachers, in which they were gifted medallions. These medallions represented their participation in the Marianist education program and studied and reflected upon our mission as a Catholic school and the Marianist tradition. After this we capped mass off with our alma mater.
