Editorial & Belief Statement

It is the belief of the student journalists and the school that freedom of expression and the press are fundamental principles in a democratic society, in alignment with the Catholic and Marianist social teachings on communication, truth, and human dignity.  Therefore, freedom of expression through student-run media is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution as well as other statutes described by federal and state law. Students have the right to comment on controversial issues, but they must verify all facts, quotes, etc.  Students will work to avoid libel, obscenity, material disruption of the school process, and unwanted invasion of privacy to ensure journalist integrity. Content will not be reviewed or restrained by school officials prior to publication or distribution. The content of The Leprechaun Network is determined by and reflects only the views of the students, not school officials or the school itself.

It is the policy of this School to ensure all students enjoy free speech and free press protections related to school-sponsored media, and to encourage students to become educated, informed, and responsible members of society.

No expression made by students in the exercise of free speech or free press rights shall be deemed to be an expression of school or district policy.
